Chimpanzee tracking in Kalinzu forest has attracted a great number of tourists to the area. Alongside chimpanzee tracking, a number of activities such as nature walks, bird watching, and hiking can be done within this forest. There are over 220 chimpanzees, and more than 70 chimpanzees have been habituated and can be tracked here at Kalinzu Forest Reserve.
The forest is home to six primate species, including olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and blue-tailed and red-tailed monkeys. Your goal as a visitor should be to reach Kalinzu’s one habituated extended chimpanzee family that humans are allowed to observe.

Chimpanzee tracking in Kalinzu forest reserve usually begins at 08:00 am in the morning and the tracking can take up to 4 hours. The reserve has 4 trails that can be used to access the chimpanzees in the forest depending on which side of the forest they are suspected to be living depending on food availability. There is a lot of hiking along the trails. You will be given an hour with the chimpanzee to see how they are socializing, feeding, and playing.
