Ishasha Ntungwe River Camp is located in the magnificent Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, which is a famous sector because of the tree-climbing lions. The lodge is just 3 km away from the Ishasha gate in the southwestern part of the park.
The eco-friendly camp sits on a diverse land that used to be farmland, so it has a strong link to the nearby Kameme community.
It is moderately priced as it overlooks the Ntungwe River. There are different choices and prices depending on whether you are at the edge of the river or up higher.
Accommodation at Ishasha Ntungwe River Camp
There are two types of accommodation available at the Ishasha Ntungwe River Camp, thus two river camp tents and five (5) luxury tents. The luxury tent accommodations are set a distance from the river due to the fact that the river floods during the rainy season.
The tents have twin beds built in African décor, having a modern birth room with solar power to heat the water. The luxury tents are fully self-contained and well-maintained. Windows in the tents are two-stage zippers and are adept at keeping out mosquitoes.
The lodge has a fully stocked restaurant with a menu that suits your interest. The river edge tents are built closer to the river and are raised up with a wooden platform – having toilets and bathtubs.
Camping
There are also camping facilities if you’d like to bring your own tent. The special area provides communal toilets and bathing facilities. The main area of the camp consists of a restaurant and bar area, which is a nice place to relax with a drink at night.
Activities at Ishasha Ntungwe River Camp
Other than the tree-climbing lions, a number of activities ranging from the guided bush walk, safari game drives to see buffaloes, elephants, and much more wildlife, and community visits can be arranged within the camp.
Visitors to Queen Elizabeth National Park always complement their visit with a gorilla trekking safari in the nearby Bwindi Forest National Park or a chimpanzee trekking expedition in Kibale National Park. Others could opt for a boat cruise on the Victoria Nile to Murchison Falls.
