    About Queen Elizabeth National Park and Mweya Visitor Information Center

    Queen Elizabeth National Park which is approximately 1,978 square kilometers (764 sq mi) is one of Uganda’s oldest national parks. It was formed officially, along with Murchison Falls National Park in 1952. The park is understandably Uganda’s most popular tourist destination located in western Uganda. It spans the districts of Kasese, Kamwenge, Rubirizi, and Rukungiri.

    Visitors to Queen Elizabeth National Park always complement their visit with a gorilla trekking safari in the nearby Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. They also go for a chimpanzee trekking expedition in Kibale National Park. Others could opt for a boat cruise on the Victoria Nile to Murchison Falls.

    While in Queen Elizabeth expect to see a variety of bird species such as kingfishers, black bee-eaters, Shoebill storks, and raptors among others. Beautiful flocks of pink flamingos tend to congregate around the crater lakes found in the northern part of this park. There are lots of things to see and things to do while in this park, which makes it an incredible place to visit.

    Activities include chimpanzee tracking, game drives, a bat cave view in Maramgambo Forest, nature walks, hiking trails, and cultural encounters with the local Banyaraguru people. There is much to do in this park, so plan on spending a number of days here.
