Queen Elizabeth entry gates are the official entrance gates to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The park can be accessed using a number of gates. These include Katunguru gate – a gate from Kasese, Kabatoro Gate – the main entrance gate, and Ishasha gate among others.
If you are hoping to catch a private ride, Katunguru gate is the best place to wait for transport going through to Mweya Peninsula. Many vehicles often make this to-and-fro journey throughout the day, so they may pick you up.
Public Matatu’s make the journey from Kasese to Katwe throughout the day. So, you can use them to drop you to the main road and then turn to park entrance, which is only 100m away. You can sometimes wait at the gate for UWA vehicles going through to Mweya Peninsula. It is 8 km from Kabatoro gate to Mweya Safari Lodge.
For those with their own transport Mweya Peninsula can be approached through the Katunguru gate and along the channel track. This is the best option for those approaching the park directly from Kampala – Mbarara direction. Kabatoro, the main gate is best for those approaching the park from Kasese direction.
About Queen Elizabeth National Park & Its Entry Gates
Queen Elizabeth National Park which is approximately 1,978 square kilometers (764 sq mi) is one of Uganda’s oldest national parks.
